Fortress

Once I built a fortress
and inside I locked my thoughts.
Guarding the gate was misery,
and for me Love bravely fought.

Buried beneath the river,
far beneath the moat,
my heart lay bleeding softly,
trying so hard to float.

Love dove through the water
and seized my dying heart,
He carried it to the surface,
stopped it falling apart.

Love glided to the fortress
my heart held in His hand
He defeated Misery with one strike
spread peace across the land.

And to my thoughts He clambered
up the fortress wall.
My thoughts and heart united,
Never again to fall.

Love put me back together,
filled my life with glee.
Vanquished all the darkness.
I've never felt so free.
